Achievements in the Week

This Teacher’s Diary being maintained by teachers of KVS remains with the teacher when she/he enters the class. Each teacher spends 40 minutes in her/his class and takes on an average 5-6 periods in a day. During my classroom observations of lessons of various teachers in the last 16 years I have hardly seen any teacher referring to this Diary for any curricular transaction inside the classrooms. Some of them keep it in  their cupboards only. It appears that it has become almost a ritualistic tool. It stands reduced to mostly a record keeping device where certain  academic records pertaining to the students and some pertaining to the  teacher are kept . There may be hardly any teacher who prepares for the period. Our teachers move to their classrooms as experienced teachers and not as prepared teachers. Hence there is an imperative need of equipping our teachers with this period wise planning of lessons.

Keeping this in view I devised a Period Wise Pedagogical Plan (PPP) and implemented this in KV(Embassy of India School) Tehran for three years. Initially teachers felt it cumbersome as it was a deviation from their routine lesson/unit plan ,but slowly they became accustomed to it.  This gave very good dividends in terms of enhancement of results in each class. A separate register was used by each teacher to maintain other records pertaining to students and teacher.

This Period Wise Pedagogical Plan (shortly may be called PPP) is basically Teacher’s Tool Box. Each teacher may keep tools as per her/his requirement. It has to be kept by the teacher in the classroom while doing curricular transactions so that the inspector/supervisor may check whether the teacher is teaching as per the plan or not. In this PPP each step has been allotted a tentative time frame and a   teacher is expected to complete her/his teaching  of a period  within that time frame. Teacher may  slightly violate the suggested time frame of each step as per her/his requirement. If a teacher (for instance) takes 4 periods to complete a lesson-she/he will prepare 4 PPP Modules on the format given below.

This one- page- wonder (given below) may bring a huge transformation in the planning of lessons in all subjects at micro level. If taken in the right spirit, it is going to benefit the students in the long run.

The innovative idea of Period wise Pedagogical Plan is a revolutionary step in language teaching in particular and teaching learning process in general. The language teacher while making period wise plan for a lesson is for sure to deal  deep into every minute atom of the language which would take language learning to the higher level, gradually preparing an individual learner to excel at every front including competitions conducted at any international level like PISA. The in-depth intricacies of the lesson/content, covering every aspect, would go through the scanner of teacher’s eyes, if it is to be planned period wise.

PPP is a very effective tool in the hands of a teacher. It refers to the period wise planning of a particular lesson. This planning will help the teacher know about the minute details of the outcome of the teaching learning process. We can also identify the slow bloomers and bright learners and work accordingly. The steps involved in this plan cover all the necessary things for an effective lesson plan.
This plan will make the teacher confident and clear regarding the content to be taught in the class.

This In-service Course has proved ‘A blessing in disguise’ for me as I have come to know to prepare PPP. It’s a wonderful, meaningful and fruitful idea as  writing PPP will make my daily teaching not only more updated, timely, innovative as well as it will serve as a mirror to me to the Principal and to the students to show what are my specific preparations for a particular day. It will reflect my methodology, my plan, my total preparation as well as my individual attention to the bright and slow bloomers. It’s very clear and transparent and handy. I’m sure it will not only satisfy me but also will be able to meet, to fulfill all the requirements of the students may be in the field of ICT too. It will make my teaching learning process easier and better. Heartiest thanks to Sh. Jugal Sir! May he live long!

Period wise Pedagogical Plan introduced in the In-service course of TGTs of four Regions i.e Gurugram, Agra, Dehradun and Meerut for the enhancement of professional skills of teachers  was a new concept to define and execute teaching learning objectives and steps from close quarters beforehand before actual delivery of things. It seems to be a great tool and exercise in the hands of a teacher to monitor himself or herself as well so that he or she may remain on track while delivering the lesson and does not go off track. Defining and planning the things in advance will never leave one in lurch and one will be able to put the things across in more concrete way and meticulously.

The introduction of Period wise Pedagogical Plan in our In-service course is really an innovative and realistic approach for lesson planning. This planning gives us a chance to overlook the lesson in every aspect for example- what is to be taught, how it is to be taught, how much time it requires, how to include integrated method of grammar teaching, how to check the TLOs, if there is any innovative thing which can be done implying the interdisciplinary approach etc.
This will really help a teacher to plan and execute his/her lesson in a very meticulous way. It provides the details of each and every step, which the teacher is going to take in the class.

Period wise Pedagogical Plan can help the teacher for better delivery of the lesson because one has to plan everything with the minutest of the details. She can do a better time management and teach everything as she has thought we can create a balanced lesson where nothing gets ne stretched or ignored. Sometimes class room situations force us to drift a little but with PPP we can always come back to our plan.
The plan is for the entire class so even the late bloomers are also active and the bright ones are also involved. It makes teaching learning more pleasurable experience

Period wise Pedagogical Plan- this for sure turns out to be an innovation in teaching practices. It will help the teacher to go planned in the class. The TLO, introduction of the chapter, recapitulation, home assignment, revision will all be organized and clear. Once the efforts made, will certainly prove to be fruitful and long lasting. It will help the teacher in future years as well. The activities planned in ahead will help the class to be managed properly. Period wise outcomes can be judged and measured. More effective learning will take place as teacher is prepared for each period. It will save the time in class and hence more learning will take place.

Period wise Pedagogical plan is very important to teach the students. It gives an insight to go deep into the lesson. We can teach different aspects of language through this plan. A lesson is to be divided in three to four plans according to the length of subject matter of the chapter.
It gives an opportunity to make the plan by dividing the lesson into paragraphs. Different topics may be covered in teaching the different paragraphs. It will make the lesson interesting and easy to comprehend. It provides an opportunity to teacher to ponder on the topic before making a plan. All the vital components of the lesson may be taught to the students. It will facilitate the teacher learning activities.

A very innovative lesson plan is what I call-Period wise Pedagogical Plan. This kind of preparation and planning keeping in mind all categories of students is of course a brainstorming plan. This plan encourages and forces a teacher to think from all angles, how to make the class more creative, fun-loving and will create an enrichment of exchange of ideas, real-life situations and many more. Involvement of students on a large basis is the prime motive behind this plan. A thought provoking, well planned, creative lesson plan i.e PPP-will always enhance upgrade the students as well as the teacher. The PPP gives a deeper insight into the lesson and classes can be taken up with full confidence, energy and in very jovial manner.
Abhipsa P. Datta TGT English KV Sec 24 Agra
The PPP is an extremely useful tool to be used in day to day teaching as it deals with what we wish to achieve, the TLO’s we wish to take up in that limited frame of time that we get with our students daily. This will not only help in increasing our teaching efficiency but also ensure that not a minute is wasted and the learners can get to the essence of what we wish to impart.

It come to me like same thing very new idea and I really started thinking very positively. We being the teachers rather me being a teacher must think to sharpen my tool that is teaching before going to my dear ones to update them to prepare them for the future and I am sure that this will help me to touch almost each and every corner of the lesson I am going to take.It is going to enhance everything that can be enhanced in the class. May God bless me and give me strength to go with this.
Komal Yadav TGT English KV Pauri
PPP is a very innovative idea. It is very useful for the teachers. In the beginning I found it a bit difficult but afterward it became easy and I filled or prepared it nicely. PPP is a tool for the teacher which helps him or her to divide the lesson period wise and deliver it in an interesting manner. But sometimes it became difficult to take classes regularly.

Harpinder Kaur TGT English KV Kapurthala
I think Period wise Pedagogical Plan will be the most useful activity because teachers will plan before going to school what they want to deliver in a particular period. They will have clear cut idea of teaching learning objectives, teaching aids, assessment tool and homework assignment in each period and try to come up to the expectations of the plan they have prepared. Earlier they have only a vague idea taken from the planning of fifteen days provided in the diary. I think period is a separate unit and planning should also be period wise. So this period wise planning will be of great heap to the students also.

  3. Respected sir
We as a teacher always plans our lesson in a diary ;15days nowadays or 30 days in the earlier times.
That is supposed to be a foremost essential tool of a teacher .
But those lesson plan sumwhere can’t give the correct direction to the teacher on daily basis .
For that we used to plan in our mind or scribble in our diary what to take up and how on daily basis .
But the module which is innovated by u ..(must be after a lots of home work and observations )
give a clear cut picture to the teacher for that period and even to the observer too.
And I believe if one is clear in his mind ,can achieve better outcomes. The lesson will go very smoothly and teaching learning process would be more effective .
Looking forward to implement it in the cuming days.

  4. The idea behind this PPP is really take the TL proceess in the desirable direction. One thing which I feel is to focus on the execution of such beautiful Ideas in a befitting manners. But how ? Habit formation takes time. but our regular efforts as well as recognition of the teachers for his work is equally desirable.
